Vincent van Gogh bookplate stuck in a book

The Other Vincent van Gogh's Bookplate

Jessica Le

While going through some old Dutch calligraphy books online I noticed a very peculiar bookplate - one Vincent van Gogh! I thought this is exactly why I love bookplates and particularly provenance history since this calligraphy book was from one of two famous Dutch women calligraphers in the 1600s - I thought how incredible it was that van Gogh would be looking at such books. BUT! After researching the bookplates a bit I found out they're not from the artist Vincent van Gogh but his cousin of the same name, bookseller Vincent van Gogh! Who would've thought? I guess provenance history goes a bit astray if you have the same name as a famous artist.
